Characteristics

Shrubs semievergreen, 3–5 m tall. Branchlets robust, purplish red to purplish black, terete, slightly angulate, initially sparsely appressed pubescent, gradually glabrescent. Petiole 5–7 mm, initially puberulous, later glabrous; stipules caducous, brown, lanceolate, 4–5 mm, membranous; leaf blade oblong-lanceolate to oblong-oblanceolate, 4–9 × 1.5–3.3 cm, leathery, midvein slightly raised abaxially, lateral veins 7–10 pairs, abaxially with bloom, initially puberulous, glabrate, adaxially lucid, glabrous, base cuneate, apex acuminate or acute. Compound corymbs 3–6 × 3–5.5 cm, densely many flowered; rachis and pedicels sparsely pilose; peduncles 1.5–2.5 cm; bracts caducous, lanceolate, 3–5 mm, membranous, puberulous. Pedicel 2–3 mm. Flowers 7–8 mm in diam. Hypanthium campanulate, abaxially sparsely pilose. Sepals ovate-triangular, 1–2 mm, apex acute. Petals spreading, white, ovate or suborbicular, 2.5–3 × 2–3 mm, glabrous, base shortly clawed, apex rounded. Stamens 20, unequal in length; anthers purple. Ovary puberulous apically; styles 2, free, somewhat not exceeding stamens. Fruit red, globose, 4–5 mm in diam., pyrenes usually 2. Fl. Jun–Jul, fr. Sep–Oct.
