Characteristics

Annual (?perennial) herb, erect or procumbent, 4–30 cm high, spreading by underground runners; stems branched, sparsely arachnoid-pubescent to almost glabrous.. Leaves alternate, dark green, pinnatisect or bipinnatisect, with dentate lobes, the leaf outline lanceolate, 2–5 cm long, 0.6–2 cm wide, base half-amplexicaul extending into a pseudopetiole up to 2 cm long, with up to 5 lobes on each side as well as a terminal lobe, up to 1 cm long, 0.3 cm wide, the lobes and their teeth apiculate, arachnoid-pubescent when young but glabrescent.. Capitula terminal, solitary, 2–5 mm long, ± globose; capitulum stalk 0.6–1.3 cm long, sparsely pubescent; phyllaries 2-seriate, 16–27, obovate, 1–2.5 mm long, 0.5–1.2 mm wide, obtuse or rarely acute, with scarious margins; receptacle flat with remnants of floret stalks.. Disc florets many (50+), yellow or pale yellow; the outer in several rows, on up to 0.6 mm long stalks; the inner sessile, corolla ± 1 mm long including 4 lobes to 0.2 mm long, anthers ± 0.3 mm long.. Achenes dorsiventrally flattened and slightly concave above, slightly convex beneath, slightly obovoid, 1.2–1.5 mm long, 0.6–1 mm wide, 0.2–0.3 mm thick, with narrow wings widening towards the apex, apex rounded to subcordate, with an unequal-sided mucro up to 0.3 mm long.

Involucres cup-shaped; phyllaries in 2 rows, oblong, with 1 red midvein, margin scarious, outer ones small, inner ones large. Marginal female florets many, without corolla; disk florets few, corolla yellow, 4-lobed. Achenes obovoid, ca. 1.2 mm, dorsiventrally flattened, lateral wings broad and thick, with sessile glands. Pappus absent. Fl. and fr. Sep-Mar of next year. 2n = 20.
Annual herb, up to 200 mm high; erect or spreading. Leaves alternate, petiolate; blade oblong in outline, up to 60 x 20 mm, pinnatisect or bipinnatisect, segments acute, margins entire or fewtoothed, thinly hairy, glabrescent. Heads disciform, solitary, terminal, pedunculate; peduncles not exceeding leaves, glabrous or with woolly, spreading hairs. Involucral bracts 1-or 2-seriate, obovate with scarious margins. Receptacle epaleate. Flowers: outer female florets stalked, 5-or 6-seriate, corolla absent or much reduced; disc florets sessile, 4-lobed; yellow; Sep.-Feb., Jun. Fruit with cypsela of outer female florets dorsiventrally flattened, winged; of disc florets dorsiventrally flattened, margined but not winged. Pappus absent.
Annual, erect or spreading herb, up to 200 mm high. Leaves alternate, pinnatisect, lobes very acute, margins entire or few-toothed, glabrous or nearly so. Capitula disciform, solitary, terminal or in upper leaf axils, pedunculate; peduncles not or scarcely exceeding leaves, either glabrous or with woolly hairs; involucral bracts ± uniseriate, glabrous with broad scarious margins. Outer female florets without corolla, in 5 or 6 rows. Disc florets bisexual, corolla short, tubular below, globose above, 4-lobed, yellow. Flowering time July-Apr. Pappus absent. Cypselae of female florets winged, of bisexual florets margined but not winged.
Prostrate or ascending annual, with leafy stems up to 150 mm long. Leaves alternate, pinnatisect, with very acute lobes, margins entire or few-toothed, glabrous or nearly so. Flowerheads disciform, solitary, terminal or in upper leaf axils, yellow; peduncles not or scarcely. Exceeding leaves, glabrous or woolly; outer female florets filiform, in 5 or 6 series; disc florets bisexual. Cypselas of female florets winged, of bisexual florets margined, wingless; pappus absent.
An annual herb. It grows 30 cm high. It has many branches from the base. The leaves do not have leaf stalks. The leaves at the base clasp the stem. The edges are dissected and the tips form sharp points. The flower heads occur singly. They are on long stalks and are flat topped.
