Erect, much-branched, rounded succulent shrublet, to 20 cm tall (excluding inflorescence). Branches woody, grey, to 5 mm in diameter, with peeling bark; young branches green, glandular hairy, 2-3 mm in diameter. Leaves decussate, dorsiventrally compressed, sticky, oblanceolate, 15-34 mm long and 10-14 mm wide, convex on both surfaces, glandular hairy; margin purple in upper third; apex mucronate; base cuneate; petiole 2-3 mm. Inflorescence an erect thyrse 4-20 cm tall, with 1 or 2 dichasia, rarely with just a solitary flower; peduncle glandular hairy; pedicels 7-10 mm long, glandular hairy. Flowers funnel-shaped, 12 mm long. Calyx lobes green, triangular, 2.5 x 2.5 mm, glandular hairy. Corolla orange-red; tube cylindrical, 12 x 5-6 mm; lobes linear-lanceolate, spreading, longer than the tube, 15-18 mm long. Stamens 10, erect, yellowish-green, in two whorls, 10 and 13 mm long, respectively, fused to tube in lower third, with a dense tuft of hairs at point of attachment; anthers spherical, yellow, 1 mm long. Squamae yellow, curved, erect, oblong, emarginate, 1 x 0.75 mm. Carpels 5, tapering to slender styles, 16-17 mm long. Flowering time: Midsummer.
