Characteristics

Shrubs up to 2 m high, little branched. Leaves opposite, oblanceolate, rarely obavate, 50-90(-110) x 20-40 mm, cuneate but with auriculate base below inflorescence, obtuse, mucronate or cuspidate, dorsiventrally flattened and scarcely convex on both surfaces, glabrous to more or less tomentose, green to greyish brown and sometimes with reddish margin towards apex. Inflorescence a thyrse with 3-5 dichasia, each usually with numerous flowers; peduncle 0.3-0.6 m long, glabrous or viscid. Calyx: lobes usually narrowly triangular, 6-8 mm long, acute, viscid. Corolla copper-coloured or orange and often with yellow margins; tube ampullaceous to almost cylindrical, 14-17 mm long, glabrous, rarely hairy on outside but glabrous within; lobes lanceolate, recoiled. Anthers 2.2-2.5 mm long. Squamae transversely oblong, 0.4-0.6 x 1-1.3 mm, slightly emarginate, yellow. Flowering period: (September-) November, December.
