Characteristics

Tree 6–20 m. tall; twigs, buds and leaf-rhachides glabrous or with a few scattered long dark hairs.. Stipules oblong, often semi-persistent; leaf-rhachis up to 12 cm. long; stipellae sometimes present; leaflets 3–8, elliptic, lanceolate or oblong, gradually acuminate, up to 15 cm. long and 7 cm. wide, glabrous.. Raceme many-flowered, densely brown pubescent, some of the hairs up to 1.2 mm. long, the axis up to 3 mm. in diameter; bracts oblong, up to 5 mm. long, caducous; pedicels up to 12 (rarely –19) mm. long; bracteoles elliptic-oblong, 3–4 mm. long, ± 2 mm. wide.. Calyx brown pubescent; tube 4–5 mm. long; lobes very broad, overlapping in the bud, ± 2 mm. long.. Corolla bluish, pinkish or white, 18–22 mm. long.. Filament-sheath 10–13 mm., free parts 5–6 mm., anthers 0.9 mm. long.. Ovary 10–11 mm. long, densely tomentose all over, 3-ovulate; style 5–6 mm. long.. They can be blue, pink or white. The fruit are on short stalks. They are flat pods 5-10 cm long and 2-4 cm wide. The pod is unequal and open with the sides twisting. There are 2-3 seeds. The seeds are 17 mm long and 15 mm wide.
