Characteristics

Dwarf shrub, up to 300 mm high; with succulent, bottle-shaped main stem. Leaves crowded at branch tips; blade fusiform to terete, linear, fleshy, woolly in axils. Heads radiate, ± 10 mm in diameter, few on sparsely bracteate peduncles, peduncle up to 300 mm long. Involucral bracts uniseriate, narrowly ovate, connate at base, ecalyculate. Flowers: ray florets ± 22, soon rolling backwards, female or bisexual; disc florets functionally male; all florets greenish yellow; Feb.-Apr. Fruit with cypsela glabrous. Pappus of scabrid bristles, much elongated in fruit.
