Characteristics

Perennials with brittle erect branches up to 0.8 m long, often scrambling, rarely decumbent, with old leaves deciduous. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, 8-15 x 3-4 mm, bluntly acute to rounded, flat or slightly convex above, very much convex below and almost as thick as broad, densely covered with recurved adpressed hairs, grey-green to greyish brown. Inflorescence an elongate to rounded thyrse with globular dichasia more or less stalked (i.e. part-inflorescences are produced from 1 or 2 nodes of central axis), with short peduncle 10-30 mm long, with adpressed hairs. Calyx: lobes triangular, 2-2.5 mm long, bluntly acute, with long erect hairs and indistinct marginal cilia, fleshy, grey-green. Corolla tubular to cylindrical, fused basally for 0.3-0.6 mm, cream; lobes panduriform, 3-3.5 mm long, with furrowed, beak-like, erect apex. Stamens with black anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.7-0.8 x 0.2-0.4 mm, slightly emarginate, fleshy, yellow.
