Characteristics

Perennials with erect or decumbent branches up to 0.3 m high, sparsely branched and with old leaves not deciduous. Leaves with petioles 2-5(-8) mm long; lamina broadly ovate, 10-25 x 8-15(-20) mm, bluntly acute to obtuse, cordate to truncate, dorsiventrally flattened and slightly convex below, entire, grey-green and often with red spots and red margin. Inflorescence a rather loose but more or less rounded thyrse, with peduncle 30-150 mm long, with vegetative adventitious buds developing on old inflorescences. Calyx: lobes narrowly triangular, 1-2 mm long, with blunt to pointed apices, fleshy, glabrous, grey-green often tinged red. Corolla star-shaped, fused at base for about 0.2 mm, cream to pale yellow, often tinged pink; lobes lanceolate-elliptic, 4-5 mm long, sharply pointed, slightly hooded and slightly ridged, spreading at about right angles to pedicels. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae transversely oblong, 0.1-0.2 x 0.4-0.5 mm, truncate, not constricted downwards, slightly fleshy, pale yellow.
