Characteristics

Perennial shrubs up to 0.8 m high, somewhat branched, with old leaves deciduous. Leaves oblanceolate to cultrate, (25-)30-50(-100) x 10-20(-35) mm, obtuse or rounded, dorsiventrally flattened and scarcely convex on both surfaces, with sharp horny margins, glabrous, rarely velvety, green but often yellowish green with reddish margins, rarely becoming reddish brown. Inflorescence an elongated thyrse (i.e. part-inflorescences are produced from (3-)5 or 6 nodes of central axis) with flowers loosely arranged on part-inflorescences, with peduncle 0.15-0.3 m long. Calyx: lobes oblong-triangular, 2-3 mm long, rounded, with spreading hairs and marginal cilia, fleshy, green. Corolla tubular to almost cylindrical, fused basally for 0.6-0.8 mm, cream; lobes panduriform, 3.5-4.5 mm long, with ovoid dorsal appendage in terminal position and without membranous petal apex on inside. Stamens with black anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.7-0.9 x 0.4-0.6 mm, slightly emarginate, fleshy, yellow. Flowering period: December, January (February).
