Characteristics

Perennial shrublets up to 0.25 m high, somewhat branched mainly from base, with decumbent or sinuous often slightly woody branches, old leaves not deciduous. Leaves linear to linear-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, (10-)15-25(-35) x 2-3 mm, bluntly acute or rounded, dorsiventrally flattened or slightly convex on either side, with swollen often recurved marginal cilia, grey-green to yellowish green, or brown, rarely red. Inflorescence a flat to round-topped thyrse with few to many dichasia each with numerous flowers, with more or less distinct peduncle (0.07-)0.1-0.25 m long. Calyx: lobes oblong-triangular, 3-3.5 mm long, bluntly acute or rounded, glabrous, fleshy, yellowish green. Corolla tubular, fused at base for 0.8-1 mm, yellow or cream, rarely white; lobes oblanceolate, 3.5-4.5 mm long, usually bluntly acute and each with indistinct dorsal appendage, recurved or recoiled. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong, 0.8-1 x 0.5-0.6 mm, truncate or slightly rounded at apex, scarcely constricted downwards, fleshy, yellow. Flowering period: (October) November, December.
