Annuals with erect or decumbent branches 40-120 mm long, rarely much shorter, glabrous. Leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate to elliptic or oblanceolate, 3-8(-10) x 0.5-2 mm, acute or obtuse, more or less flat above, usually strongly convex below, glabrous, very fleshy, green to reddish-brown. Inflorescence a thyrse with many dichasia, rarely reduced to one terminal flower, with pedicellate 4 or 5-merous flowers. Calyx: lobes lanceolate, 1-2(-3) mm long, acute, glabrous or with denticulate margins, slightly fleshy, green. Corolla cup-shaped, scarcely fused basally, white or cream; lobes lanceolate to broadly ovate, 1.5-3 mm long, acute to acuminate, spreading. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae T-shaped to transversely oblong-cuneate, 0.2-0.3 x 0.1-0.5 mm, usually truncate, more or less abruptly constricted downwards, almost membranous and slightly thickened towards apex, pale yellow or white. Seeds (2-)4-8(-12), released through apical pore of follicle.
