Characteristics

Perennials with spreading, decumbent stems 5-150(-200) mm long, much branched. Leaves usually in more than 3 pairs and in a whorl of four at lower nodes, spathulate and with a petiole 6-60(-70) mm long (usually twice as long as lamina); lamina broadly ovate, rarely orbicular, (3-)6-15(-20) x (3-)8-25 mm, bluntly acute to rounded, cordate, truncate or with more or less cuneate base, entire or dentate, glabrous or rarely pubescent, green. Inflorescence terminal and axillary thyrses with many 5-merous flowers, without peduncles. Calyx: lobes triangular-lanceolate, 1-1.5 mm long, bluntly acute, glabrous, scarcely fleshy, green. Corolla star-shaped, scarcely fused at base, white or rarely cream; lobes lanceolate, 2.5-3.5 mm long, usually drawn into sharp apices, spreading. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae narrowly oblong 0.4-0.6 x 0.1-0.2 mm, rounded at apices gradually constricted towards base, scarcely fleshy, pale yellow.
