Characteristics

Perennials with usually erect, rarely decumbent or prostrate branches 0.15-0.3(-0.4) m long, more or less branched, glabrous or with few spreading hairs particularly below inflorescences, with flaking bark on older branches, with old leaves usually deciduous. Leaves lanceolate or ovate, (2-)3-7 x 1-3(-4) mm, acute, dorsiventrally flattened, glabrous, green. Inflorescence a sessile rounded thyrse with one to several dichasia, often half-hidden by leaves below, with shortly pedicellate flowers. Calyx: lobes linear, 2-4 mm long, acute or bluntly acute, convex, ridged to keeled towards apex, fleshy, papillose, green. Corolla tubular, fused at base for 0.2-0.3 mm, white or cream; lobes elliptic-oblong, 3-5 mm long, sharply acute and more or less folded and with a dorsal ridge, spreading. Stamens with brown anthers. Squamae transversely oblong, 0.2-0.4 x 0.4-0.6 mm, often slightly emarginate, sometimes constricted downwards, fleshy, pale yellow or white.
