Characteristics

Annuals with erect wiry branches up to 100 mm long, more or less branched. Leaves lanceolate to elliptic, 3-7(-10) x 2-4 mm, obtuse, dorsiventrally flattened and often cymbiform, glabrous, slightly fleshy, green to brown. Inflorescence a thyrse often only with one dichasium. Calyx: lobes oblong to broadly triangular, 1-1.5 mm long, obtuse, glabrous, very fleshy, green. Corolla cup-shaped, scarcely fused basally, white; lobes oblanceolate, 2-3 mm long, acute, erect to recurved at apices. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.4-0.7 x 0.2-0.3 mm, truncate, at first abruptly, later gradually constricted downwards, fleshy, white to red. Styles very short with a dorso-laterally placed stigma and continuing ventrally into a short horn. Seeds 2-6, released through apical pore of follicles.
