Characteristics

Perennial shrublets up to 0.4 m high, branches usually glabrous or sometimes scabrid below inflorescence, old leaves not deciduous. Leaves lanceolate-triangular rarely oblong-triangular, (15-)20-35(-50) x (l-)2-4(-5) mm, sharply acute or rarely somewhat rounded, dorsiventrally flattened and scarcely convex above and below, glabrous except for rounded marginal cilia, green to yellowish green. Inflorescence a terminal round-topped thyrse with few to many dichasia, usually without distinct peduncle. Calyx: lobes narrowly triangular, 5.5-6.6 mm long, sharply acute and often drawn into colourless point, usually with few marginal teeth, fleshy, green. Corolla tubular, fused at base for 0.8-1.1 mm, white, cream or yellow; lobes oblanceolate-oblong to oblong-elliptic, 7-9 mm long, usually acute, with more or less pronounced subterminal dorsal appendage, recurved at apex. Stamens with brown anthers. Squamae transversely oblong to square, 0.2-0.3 x 0.3-0.4 mm, slightly emarginate and scarcely constricted downwards, fleshy, yellow.
