Characteristics

Annuals with erect wiry branches up to 50 mm high, usually much branched. Leaves lanceolate, ovate to elliptic, 5-10(-15) x 2-6 mm, obtuse, dorsiventrally flattened and slightly cymbiform, glabrous, slightly fleshy, green. Inflorescence a thyrse with usually one dichasium. Calyx: lobes oblong-triangular, 2-2.5 mm long, obtuse, glabrous, somewhat fleshy, green. Corolla cup-shaped, basally fused for 0.3-0.4 mm, white to yellow; lobes oblanceolate, 4-5 mm long, bluntly acute, erect to somewhat recurved at apices. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.8-1 x 0.2-0.3 mm, truncate to slightly rounded, gradually constricted downwards, slightly fleshy, white. Styles slender with an apparently dorso-laterally placed stigma and continuing into a short terminal horn. Seeds 8-12, released through apical pore of follicles.
