Characteristics

Perennials with stems spreading to ultimately decumbent, up to 0.15 m long, brittle, much branched; old leaves remaining attached to stem. Leaves lanceolate to ovate, 8-15(-20) x 4-7 mm, rounded to bluntly acute, abruptly constricted downwards flat to slightly convex above and strongly convex below, usually as thick as broad, bent upwards from base, covered with short, stout, recurved, usually not adpressed hairs, rarely glabrous, green to brown. Inflorescence an elongated thyrse with few-flowered dichasia; peduncle (6-)15-25(-35) mm long, with spreading hairs. Calyx: lobes triangular, 1.5-2.5 mm long, with bluntly acute to rounded apices, with long spreading hairs and marginal cilia, fleshy, green often tinged red. Corolla tubular, fused basally for 0.5-0.8 mm, cream to yellow; lobes panduriform, 3-4 mm long, acuminate and drawn into a beak-like apex without dorsal appendage. Stamens with brown to black anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.6-0.8 x 0.4-0.5 mm, slightly emarginate, fleshy, yellow to orange.
