Characteristics

Perennials with prostrate or decumbent branches up to 0.15 m long, rooting at nodes, with old leaves not deciduous. Leaves obovate, elliptic or almost linear or lanceolate, (2-)3-25(-35) x 2-8(-12) mm, acute, obtuse or rounded, dorsiventrally compressed, slightly convex above and usually more so below, covered with spreading to more or less recurved hairs and with spreading to recurved cilia, green or grey-green. Inflorescence a more or less flat-topped thyrse, with leaves becoming gradually shorter below inflorescence. Calyx: lobes triangular, 1.5-2.5 mm long, usually acute, covered with spreading hairs and marginal cilia, fleshy, green. Corolla tubular, fused basally for c. 1 mm, white to cream; lobes oblong-obovate, 2-3.5 mm long, acute and with dorsal appendage, recurved. Stamens with black anthers. Squamae oblong to square, 0.5-0.7(-0.8) x 0.2-0.6 mm, usually emarginate, rarely truncate, slightly constricted downwards, fleshy, yellow to orange.
