Characteristics

Perennials forming shrubs 0.15-1.2 m high, much branched, with old leaves deciduous. Leaves linear-lanceolate, rarely lanceolate, 25-60(-80) x 3-15 mm, more or less pointed and usually slightly constricted at base, flat or almost so above but strongly convex below, spreading or somewhat curved upwards, glabrous, green to brown. Inflorescence a rounded thyrse with peduncle 10-50 mm long. Calyx: lobes oblong to semi-circular, 0.7-1 mm long, rounded, ridged, fleshy, green to brown. Corolla tubular, fused basally for 3-6 mm, white often tinged pink; lobes oblong-elliptic to oblanceolate, 2.5-4 mm long, rounded, recurved. Stamens with black anthers. Squamae oblong, 0.6-0.8 x 0.3-0.6 mm, rarely slightly emarginate, constricted towards base, fleshy, yellow.
