Characteristics

Perennial shrublets up to 0.8 m high, more or less branched with branches mainly towards apex, old leaves not deciduous. Leaves narrowly oblong, rarely elliptic to oblanceolate, 25-50(-70) x (2-)3-6 mm, obtuse or rounded, dorsiventrally flattened and scarcely convex on both surfaces, with marginal cilia spherical or almost so, grey-green to dull brown. Inflorescence a flat or rarely round-topped thyrse with many dichasia, each with many almost sessile flowers, without distinct peduncle. Calyx: lobes narrowly triangular, 2.5-3.5 mm long, more or less sharply acute, with marginal teeth, fleshy to carnose, green to brown. Corolla tubular, fused at base for 1-1.5 mm, cream; lobes oblanceolate to panduriform, rarely elliptic, 3.5-4.5 mm long, acuminate to aculeate, without dorsal appendage, scarcely recurved at apex. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong, 1-1.2 x 0.3-0.6 mm, truncate or slightly emarginate, more or less constricted towards base, fleshy, yellow.
