Characteristics

Annuals with erect, rarely decumbent branches 60-120 mm long, glabrous. Leaves sessile, oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, (3-)5-8 (-10) x 1-4 mm, usually obtuse, dorsiventrally flattened, glabrous, slightly fleshy, yellowish green to red. Inflorescence a thyrse with one to several dichasia, with pedicellate, 4-or 5-merous flowers. Calyx: lobes lanceolate-oblong, 1.5-3 mm long and elongating after flowering, bluntly acute, glabrous, green to brown. Corolla cup-shaped, scarcely fused basally, white often tinged red; lobes elliptic, 2-3 mm long, bluntly acute to obtuse, spreading. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate to T-shaped, 0.3-0.4 x 0.1-0.4 mm, truncate, at first abruptly, later gradually constricted downwards, membranous, white. Seeds (6-)8-16, released through apical pore of follicle.
