Characteristics

Perennials with prostrate herbaceous branches forming dense cushions up to 0.2 m in diameter, much branched and branches repeatedly rooting at nodes, glabrous. Leaves sometimes with a petiole to 1 mm long; lamina elliptic to oblanceolate, 1.5-3 x 0.5-1.5 mm, usually obtuse, dorsiventrally compressed to somewhat convex on both surfaces, minutely papillose to almost glabrous, fleshy, green to red. Calyx: lobes lanceolate to almost ovate, 1-2 mm long, acute or obtuse, minutely papillose towards the apices, fleshy, green to red. Corolla saucer-to cup-shaped, scarcely fused basally, white, rarely tinged pink; lobes elliptic-oblong, 2-3 mm long, acute, recurved. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong to almost square, 0.5-0.6 x 0.3-0.5 mm, truncate, gradually constricted downwards, almost membranous, white.
