Perennials with erect stems up to 0.15 m long, usually only with one main branch, rarely with a few much shorter ones from base, sometimes becoming decumbent with age. Leaves broadly ovate, 5-8 x 7-13 mm, with blunt apices, strongly concave above and convex below, closely clasping around stem (including leaf apex) to form a four-angled column 10-15(-20) mm in diameter, densely covered with rounded papillae and with short coarse hairs along margin becoming papillose towards apex of leaves, grey, rarely grey-green. Inflorescence a loose, round-topped thyrse with peduncle 30-60 mm long and covered with recurved hairs. Calyx lobes triangular, 1.5-2 mm long, bluntly acute, covered with short spreading hairs and marginal cilia, fleshy, grey-green. Corolla tubular, fused basally for 0.3-0.4 mm, cream fading to brown; lobes oblong to oblong-oblanceolate, 2-3 mm long, bluntly acute to obtuse, spreading to recurved. Stamens with brown anthers.
