Characteristics

Shrublets up to 0.2 m high, much branched, branches covered with recurved adpressed hairs when young and with smooth bark when old, old leaves remaining attached to stems for some time. Leaves lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 4-12 x c. 2 mm, acute, almost terete but somewhat flattened above, densely covered with elongate adpressed trichomes each with a blunt apex acropetally and basipetally varying from one blunt terminal to two lateral points, grey-green to greyish brown. Inflorescence a more or less flat-topped thyrse with one to several dichasia with flowers sessile or almost so. Calyx: lobes narrowly triangular, 3-4 mm long, unequally long, covered with adpressed trichomes, green to brown. Corolla tubular, fused basally for 1.5-2 mm, white to cream; lobes oblanceolate, 5-6 mm long, acute, with prominent subterminal appendage, recurved. Stamens with dark brown anthers. Squamae transversely oblong to almost square, 0.2-0.3 x 0.4-0.5 mm, truncate, slightly constricted downwards, fleshy, yellow. Flowering period: November, December (January).
