Characteristics

Shrublets to 0.2 m high, moderately branched, branches covered with recurved adpressed hairs when young and with smooth bark when old, old leaves remaining attached to stems for a short while. Leaves linear-lanceolate, 5-14 x 1-2 mm, acute, almost terete but slightly flattened above, more or less covered with elongate adpressed trichomes each with an acute apex acropetally and two lateral points basipetally, grey-green to greyish brown. Inflorescence a more or less flat-topped thyrse with one to several dichasia with pedicellate flowers. Calyx: lobes linear-lanceolate, 4-5 mm long, usually unequal in length, pointed, glabrous or sometimes with a few scattered trichomes, green to brown. Corolla tubular, fused basally for 2-3 mm, white to cream, lobes oblanceolate to oblong, 8-10 mm long, acute, with prominent subterminal appendage, recurved. Stamens with brown anthers. Squamae square to transversely oblong, 0.2 x 0.2-0.3 mm, truncate, slightly constricted downwards, fleshy, yellow. Flowering period: November, December (January).
