Characteristics

Perennial shrublets up to 0.3 m high, usually much branched, with erect later decumbent, slightly woody branches, with old leaves deciduous. Leaves oblanceolate to club-shaped, 15-20(-30) x (3-)4-8 mm, bluntly acute to obtuse, flat to somewhat convex above, distinctly convex below, densely covered with spreading hairs, green to yellowish green and often with a red margin. Inflorescence an elongated thyrse usually with many globular dichasia (i.e. part-inflorescences are produced from 2-4 nodes of central axis), with peduncle 0.05-0.15(-0.2) m long and with spreading rarely recurved hairs. Calyx: lobes triangular, 2-2.5 mm long, rounded, covered with spreading hairs and marginal cilia, grey to yellowish green. Corolla tubular to almost cylindrical, fused basally for 0.5-0.6 mm, usually pale yellow; lobes panduriform, 3-4 mm long, with ovoid dorsal appendage in terminal position and with membranous petal apex on inside. Stamens with dark brown anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.5-0.7 x 0.3-0.4 mm, usually truncate, fleshy, pale yellow. Flowering period: (December) January-March.
