Characteristics

Perennials with erect stems 50-150(-250) mm high, unbranched. Leaves in 1(2) pairs, sessile, transversely depressed-obovate, 10-30(-50) x 30-70(-120) mm, obtuse to almost truncate, usually doubly crenate, glabrous, scarcely fleshy, green or sometimes purple underneath. Inflorescence a terminal umbellate to subumbellate thyrse with usually 5-merous flowers, with peduncle 50-150(-250) mm long. Calyx: lobes triangular, 1.5-3 mm long, bluntly acute, glabrous, slightly fleshy, green. Corolla tubular but fused only towards base, white often tinged pink; lobes oblanceolate, 3.5-7.5 mm long, bluntly acute or rounded, slightly recurved at apex. Stamens with brown anthers. Squamae transversely oblong, 0.1-0.3 x 0.3-0.6 mm, truncate or slightly rounded, abruptly constricted towards base, somewhat fleshy, yellow.
