Characteristics

Shrublets up to 0.4 m high, sparsely branched and then mainly from base, branches covered with recurved adpressed hairs when young and rarely with smooth bark when old, old leaves remaining attached to stems. Leaves narrowly triangular to lanceolate, 20-35 x 2-5 mm, drawn into a sharp point but often drying up from apex, flat or slightly concave above and strongly convex below, densely covered with elongate adpressed hairs, with a bluntly acute acropetalous apex and with pointed basipetalous apex, grey-green, rarely greyish brown. Inflorescence a more or less flat-topped thyrse with one to several dichasia with pedicellate flowers. Calyx: lobes narrowly triangular, 4-6 mm long, usually unequally long, pointed, covered irregularly with trichomes with two points, green. Corolla tubular, fused basally for 1.5-2 mm, white often tinged red; lobes oblong-oblanceolate, 9-10 mm long, acute, with dorsal appendage, recurved. Stamens with brown anthers. Squamae square to transversely oblong, 0.3-0.4 x 0.3-0.5 mm, truncate, constricted downwards, slightly fleshy, pale yellow.
