Characteristics

Annuals with erect wiry branches up to 80 mm high, more or less branched. Leaves oblanceolate, obovate, elliptic to ovate, 5-9(-12) x 2-4 mm, usually obtuse, dorsiventrally flattened and slightly cymbiform, glabrous, slightly fleshy, green. Inflorescence a thyrse usually only with one dichasium. Calyx: lobes usually elliptic, 1.5-2 mm long, obtuse, glabrous, very fleshy, green. Corolla tubular to funnel-shaped, basally fused for c. 2 mm, bright yellow; lobes oblanceolate 4-5 mm long, bluntly acute to obtuse, erect with recurved terminal apices. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.6-0.8 x 0.2-0.4 mm, truncate, first abruptly, later gradually constricted towards the base, fleshy, yellow. Styles each develop two broad wings which cover the laterally placed stigma. Seeds 10-18, released through apical pore of follicles.
