Characteristics

Perennials with wiry decumbent branches, hardly woody and up to 0.4 m long when flowering, with leaf pairs spirally arranged, old leaves remaining attached to stems. Leaves linear, (4-)6-15(-25) x 1-3(-4) mm, acute to bluntly acute, glabrous or slightly papillose mainly towards base, marginal papillae often wearing off towards apex, dorsiventrally compressed, leathery, green to yellowish green. Inflorescence a rounded thyrse with many pedicellate flowers loosely arranged, with indistinct peduncle covered with leaf-like bracts gradually shortened upwards and internodes elongating. Calyx: lobes broadly triangular, 1.2-2 mm long, acute, glabrous, slightly fleshy, green to yellowish green. Corolla tubular, fused basally for c. 0.6 mm, cream, rarely white; lobes oblanceolate to oblong, 2-2.5 mm long, rounded to slightly hooded, recurved. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong to almost square, 0.2-0.5 x 0.2-0.4 mm, truncate to somewhat emarginate, slightly constricted downwards, scarcely fleshy, pale yellow.
