Characteristics

Perennials with erect stems 80-150 mm high, usually unbranched. Leaves in 3(4) pairs, usually with petioles up to 10 mm long; lamina narrowly to broadly elliptic or obovate, 15-40 x 5-15(-20) mm, crenate, glabrous, green or yellowish green. Inflorescence a terminal thyrse with peduncle 20-60 mm long. Calyx: lobes triangular, 1-1.5 mm long, acute to rounded, glabrous, slightly fleshy, yellowish green. Corolla star-shaped and scarcely fused towards base, pale yellowish green; lobes lanceolate, 2.5-3.5 mm long, acute or drawn into a sharp point. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae linear, 0.6-0.8 x c. 0.2 mm, with rounded apices, gradually constricted downwards, red or orange.
