Characteristics

Annuals with erect to rarely decumbent branches, 3-120(-170) mm long, usually covered with long spreading and slightly recurved hairs. Leaves, at least lower ones, with a petiole 1-7(-10) mm long; lamina elliptic, 4-15(-20) x 2-7 mm, obtuse to bluntly acute and usually with a stout terminal hair, covered with fine scattered hairs, rarely glabrous, membranous or slightly fleshy, green to yellowish green and sometimes with red linear markings. Inflorescence a thyrse usually with several dichasia, with 5-merous pedicellate flowers. Calyx: lobes lanceolate to elliptic, 1-2(-3) mm long, obtuse and usually with stouter terminal hair, often unequally long, green. Corolla cup-shaped, scarcely fused basally, white, rarely tinged red; lobes lanceolate, 1.5-2 mm long, acute, erect to somewhat recurved. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae linear, 0.4-0.6 x c. 0.1 mm, rounded, slightly fleshy, white. Seeds 4-8, released through apical pore of follicle.
