Species

Angiosperms > Saxifragales > Crassulaceae > Crassula

Characteristics

Perennials, often scramblers or shrublets up to 0.6 m high, rarely tufted, sparsely branched and usually from base, with branches slightly woody and usually brittle, with old leaves not deciduous. Leaves narrowly oblong-elliptic, 30-80(-150) x 3-8(-12) mm, usually acute, flat or canaliculate above and usually more or less convex below, erect or recurving, glabrous to pubescent, usually deep red and rarely yellowish brown or green. Inflorescence an elongate thyrse with dense dichasia (i.e. part-inflorescences are produced by 3-5(-8) nodes of central axis), with peduncle (0.1-)0.15-0.4 m long and covered with short hairs. Calyx: lobes narrowly oblong-triangular, 2-2.5 mm long, bluntly acute, with short fine recurved hairs or papillae and short marginal cilia, fleshy, green to red. Corolla tubular to almost cylindrical, fused basally for 0.4-0.6 mm, cream to pale yellow; lobes panduriform, 3-3.5 mm long, usually with elongate-ellipsoid dorsal appendage in terminal position and with membranous petal apex on inside. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.8-1 x 0.4-0.5 mm, truncate or slightly emarginate, at first abruptly later gradually constricted downwards, fleshy, yellow to orange.
