Characteristics

Perennial with fastigiate erect branches up to 0.15 m long, sparsely branched, produced from an underground rhizome which has many small side branches terminating in almost spherical tubers up to 3 mm in diameter. Leaves linear, 5-15 x 1-1.5 mm, obtuse, rarely bluntly acute, more or less flat on the upper surface, convex below, erect or curved upwards from the middle, fleshy, green. Inflorescence with 1(-3) flowers per leaf due to sympodial growth, with 4-merous flowers. Calyx: lobes narrowly triangular, 0.8-1 mm long, bluntly pointed, fleshy, green. Corolla more or less cup-shaped, scarcely fused at base, white; lobes ovate to almost rhombic, 1.5-2 mm long, bluntly pointed, recurved. Stamens with purple anthers. Squamae oblong-cuneate, 0.3-0.4 x 0.2-0.3 mm, truncate, mainly constricted below apex, slightly fleshy, white or pink.
