Characteristics

Perennials with erect sparingly branched stems up to 80 mm long and densely covered with leaves to form a column, and old leaves not deciduous; root scarcely thickened. Leaves broadly obovate or rhombic-obovate, 5-6 x 3-4 mm, acute to obtuse, concave above and strongly convex below, adpressed to stems, usually covered with greyish flaking wax layer, grey-green or green. Inflorescence with 1-8(-14) sessile flowers in dense terminal dichasia and hardly emerging above leaves, peduncle absent. Calyx: lobes oblong-triangular, 1-1.5 mm long, obtuse, fleshy towards apices, glabrous, green. Corolla urceolate, fused at base for c. 0.2 mm, cream; lobes oblong-obovate, 2-3 mm long, each abruptly constricted into a narrower apex, without dorsal ridge or appendage, with apices slightly recurving. Stamens with yellow anthers. Squamae transversely oblong, 4-5 x 5-7 mm, truncate, scarcely constricted downwards, somewhat fleshy, yellow.
