Leaves held erect, lanceolate, 3–7 xx 1–2.5 cm., narrowed at the base, subacute, entire, 3–5 nerves prominent beneath, glabrous and shining above, pubescent on the nerves beneath; petiole up to half as long as lamina, broad.

Inflorescence 3–12 cm. long, sparsely pilose, usually with several opposite, ovate flowerless bracts well below inflorescence, flowers shortly racemose in upper third or half, subsessile; bracts ovate.
Corolla white with purple markings; c. 1.5 cm. long, upper lip nearly as long as lower, lobes very obtuse.
Calyx c. 8 mm. long, shortly and acutely toothed, sparsely hispid on nerves.
Rosette, perennial herb; rhizome stout, horizontal, with numerous roots.
