Plant lacking pseudostem. Leaves few, linear, almost terete to flat, more or less erect, 10-40 cm long, usually 0.5-2 mm wide, sometimes to 1.5 cm wide; margin usually smooth. Inflorescence arising beside leaves, to 40 cm long, with 1 or rarely 2 sessile flowers; bracts membranous, 3-5.5 cm long, pale brown or sometimes pink. Flowers lightly scented. Perianth tube 7-13 cm long; lobes elliptic to obovate, 4.5-8.5 cm long, 0.5-1.2 cm wide, spreading, white or pink, or white turning pink with age. Stamens 2.5-4.5 cm long, pink to purple; anthers 5-10 mm long, slightly crescent-shaped, yellow to orange. Beak absent.
