Annual herb. Stems ± procumbent or decumbent, up to 150 mm long, laterally branched; retrorsely pubescent. Leaves 1 or 2 pairs of basal ones; blade elliptic, cauline ones spathulate, 6-7 x 2-3 mm, tapering into a broad petiole, mostly glabrous. Flowers: in congested, terminal heads, forming narrow panicles; calyx bilabiate, 5-lobed, pubescent; corolla tube broadly funnel-shaped, 1.5-2.5 mm long, limb bilabiate, 5-lobed, lobes white or light cream-coloured, bud violet outside with orange patch at base of posticous lip and halfway down back of tube; Jul.-Oct.
Prostrate or decumbent annual, ± 10-150 mm tall, with acute, retrorse hairs. Leaves with 1 or 2 pairs of basal ones, elliptic, petiolar apart ± equalling or longer than blade, cauline ones spathulate. Flowers in congested heads, 5-lobed, corolla tube 1.5-2.5 mm long, limb bilabiate, white or cream, with orange patch at base of upper lip, violet outside in bud.
