Crotalaria angulicaulis Harms

Species

Angiosperms > Fabales > Fabaceae > Crotalaria

Characteristics

Leaves mostly 1-foliolate, with a 1–6 mm long petiole, but the lowermost sometimes simple and subsessile, the uppermost often reduced to small subulate structures; leaflets up to 7–15(19) × 0.5–2 cm, linear-lanceolate to attenuately lanceolate or oblong-oblanceolate to oblong-obovate, pungent, rather leathery and somewhat glaucous, finely pubescent beneath, sometimes glabrescent; lateral nerves steeply ascending, the second pair running near the margin far into the upper half; stipules 2–5 mm long, subulate.
More
Standard elliptic or elliptic-oblong, violet-blue inside, lined bluish-brown and at least sparsely pubescent outside; wings somewhat shorter than the keel; keel 0.8–1.1 cm long, angular, sharply bent in the lower part with a long beak, often slightly incurved towards the tip, often thinly pubescent at least towards the base.
Racemes terminal on the main and relatively short lateral branches, the latter subtended by reduced leaves, thus forming a pseudopanicle, lax, with few to numerous flowers; bracts 1.5–2 mm long, linear-subulate or linear-lanceolate; bracteoles inserted on the lower half of the pedicel, smaller.
Erect annual herb, often with several stems from the base, up to 0.5–1.5 m tall; stems 3–4-angled, strongly ribbed to slightly winged, pubescent, sometimes soon glabrescent.
Calyx 4.5–6 mm long, glabrous to finely appressed pubescent; lobes subulate to narrowly triangular-acuminate, as long as or longer than the tube.
Pod shortly stipitate, 18–22 × 6–8 mm, oblong-ellipsoid or cylindrical, glabrous to finely appressed pubescent, 12–16-seeded.
Seeds up to 4 mm long, oblong-cordiform, smooth, glossy.
