Characteristics

Standard elliptic-obovate, orange-yellow, lined or flushed reddish, glabrous to thinly puberulous outside; wings distinctly shorter than the keel; keel (6)7–9 mm long, angular, with a long narrow twisted beak slightly incurved at the tip.

Leaves 1-foliolate or sometimes mostly simple; leaflets 10–35 × 1–3 mm, linear-oblanceolate to narrowly oblong, acute and apiculate, glabrous to thinly appressed puberulous beneath; petiole 0–4 mm long; stipules 0.
Racemes 6–20 cm long, laxly many-flowered, with other flowers developing in the axils below; bracts 1–2 mm long, linear-subulate; pedicel 3–6 mm long, sometimes with minute bracteoles.
Calyx (2.5)3–5 mm long, appressed puberulous to subglabrous; upper lobes usually narrowly triangular-acuminate, (1.5)2–2.5 times as long as the tube.
Erect annual 50–120 cm tall, branching above; stem appressed puberulous, glabrescent, lower part sometimes spongy and with adventitious roots.
Seeds 2.5 mm long, oblique-cordiform, smooth, with a pronounced aril.
Pod sessile, 5–6 × 3.5–4 mm, ovoid-globose, puberulous, 2-seeded.
