Characteristics

Small erect annual, up to 1·5–4·5 dm. tall, developing numerous ascending or spreading slender branches mostly from near the base.. Stem slender, densely subappressed pubescent.. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets wedge-shaped to oblanceolate-oblong, up to 12–16 mm. long, 1–3·5 mm. wide, subacute to rounded or truncate at the apex, minutely apiculate, glabrous to sparsely pilose above, densely appressed pubescent or pilose beneath; petiole up to 6 mm. long.. Stipules absent.. Racemes short, few-flowered, with most of the flowers clustered in many of the axils below; bracts linear, ± 0·5–1·5 mm. long, shorter than the pedicel; bracteoles not apparent.. Calyx 2·5–3·5 mm. long, with the tube protracted on the lower side, appressed pubescent; upper lobes narrowly attenuate-triangular, up to twice as long as the tube.. Standard elliptic-oblanceolate, yellow with reddish marks at the base inside, red veined and pubescent outside; wings shorter than the keel; keel bent at right-angles in the lower third, with a narrow twisted beak, 4–6(–7) mm. long.. Pod sessile, ovoid-globose, 3–3·5 mm. long, pubescent, 2-seeded.. Seeds suborbicular-cordiform, up to 1·5 mm. across, without a conspicuous aril, smooth, brown.

Similar to C. alexandri, but with generally shorter hairs (0.1–0.3 mm long), the leaflets variable but often more wedge-shaped, broadest near the apex, subacute to rounded or often truncate, glabrous or shortly pubescent above, bracts much shorter than the pedicel, 0.5–1.5 mm long, and the pod 2-seeded.
