Erect rather bushy annual or short-lived perennial, up to 1·3 m. tall.. Stem densely covered with appressed or slightly spreading white hairs.. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets elliptic or obovate, up to 40–74 mm. long, 16–34 mm. wide, obtuse, rounded or retuse at the apex, subglabrous above, usually with small hairs only along the midvein, appressed pubescent beneath; petiole ± 15–25 mm. long.. Stipules subulate or filiform, up to 2–5 mm. long, rather persistent.. Racemes up to 15–30 cm. long, with many fairly closely arranged flowers; bracts linear or subulate, 1–3 mm. long; bracteoles inserted at the base of the calyx, subulate to oblong-triangular, up to 1·5–2 mm. long.. Calyx ± 5 mm. long, thinly appressed pubescent; lobes triangular, ± as long as the tube or shorter..
