Characteristics

Low shrub, 1-2 m tall, with tomentellous branches. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets elliptic-obovate, ±2.5-5 x 1.4-2 cm, mucronate, thinly pubescent above, densely sericeous pubescent and with rather prominent nerves beneath, drying dark coloured; petiole ± as long as the leaflets. Stipules absent. Racemes usually with numerous fairly close arranged flowers; bracts linear, 3-4 mm long, caducous; bracteoles similar to the bract. Calyx 1.2-1.4 cm long, tomentellous; lobes narrowly attenuate-triangular, somewhat acuminate, longer than the tube. Standard ovate-elliptic, yellow, tomentellous outside; wings ± as long as the keel; keel rounded about the middle with a rather short bluntly pointed beak, ±1.8-2 cm long, pubescent towards the lower margin. Legume oblong-clavate, narrowed to 0.8-1.2(-1.5 fide Verdoorn) cm long stipe, up to 4.5-5 cm long, densely pubescent to tomentellous. Seeds broadly oblique-cordiform, 4-5 mm long, minutely papillose, pale brown.
