Characteristics

Perennial with a number of erect, slender, spiny stems from a taproot or small branched rootstock, 15-40 cm tall; branches strigulose to subappressed or crisped puberulous. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets oblanceolate to obovate, 3-8 x 1-3.5 mm, puberulous to strigose beneath; petiole 1-5 mm long. Stipules subulate to linear-lanceolate, 0.5-1.5 mm long. Flowers 1-2 on slender patent 0.5-1(-1.5) cm long spines all along the branches; bracts linear-lanceolate, 0.5-1 mm long; bracteoles on the pedicel, small. Calyx 3-4 mm long, appressed puberulous; lobes triangular, 1-2 times as long as the tube. Standard obovate to oblate, yellow, subglabrous to pubescent on the upper half outside; wings nearly as long as the keel; keel angular, with a narrow twisted beak, 5-11 mm long. Legume subsessile, globose, 4-7 mm across, appressed puberulous, 2-4-seeded (ovules 8-12). Seeds oblique-cordiform, 2 mm long, rugulose, brown.
