Characteristics

Stems ultimately numerous from a woody rootstock, but flowering from first year of growth, procumbent to erect, 15–40(180) cm long, subterete, subappressed pubescent; rootstock vertical with rhizome-like branches from the top.

Standard elliptic, yellow, lined or flushed reddish and pubescent outside; wings oblong-obovate, ± as long as the keel; keel 9–11(12) mm long, angular, with a narrow twisted beak.
Racemes (3)7–15(20) cm long, laxly (4)8–16(24)-flowered; buds ascending; bracts 1–2(2.5) mm long, linear-lanceolate; bracteoles usually near top of the pedicel, 0.5–1.5 mm long.
Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets (8)10–20(30) × (2)3–6(8) mm, mostly oblong-oblanceolate, appressed pubescent beneath; petiole 6–12(15) mm long; stipules 1–2 mm long, subulate.
Calyx (3.5)4.5–6 mm long, appressed pubescent; upper lobes narrowly triangular, 1.2–1.5 times as long as the tube.
Pod subsessile, 10–14 × 5–7 mm, ellipsoid-oblong, pubescent, 10–12-seeded.
Seeds 2–2.5 mm long, oblique-cordiform, smooth, brown.
