Characteristics

Much branched shrub, ± 1–4 m. tall.. Branches pubescent on the very young shoots, soon glabrescent.. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets elliptic-lanceolate or elliptic, up to 4–8 cm. long, 1·7–3 cm. wide, acute to rounded and mucronate, broadly cuneate, thinly appressed puberulous or glabrous above, appressed puberulous beneath, ultimately glabrescent; petiole up to 5·5–8 cm. long.. Stipules absent.. Racemes up to 12–22 cm. long, with a rather slender slightly zig-zag rhachis, many-flowered; bracts ovate to suborbicular, 14–27 mm. long, 8–24 mm. wide, caducous; bracteoles inserted near the middle of the pedicel, filiform, up to 2 mm. long.. Calyx 13–20 mm. long, basally narrowed into a prominent receptacle, glabrous to sparsely appressed puberulous outside, usually minutely crisped puberulous on the lobes inside; upper and lateral lobes on either side joined almost to the tips.. Standard ovate, yellow, often lined or flushed with purple, glabrous outside; wings a little over half to two-thirds as long as the keel; keel strongly rounded about the middle with a well developed straight truncate upwardly directed untwisted beak, 28–32 mm. long.. Pod ellipsoid-clavate, abruptly contracted into the 2–2·5 cm. long stipe, ± 7–8 cm. long, 2 cm. across, glabrous, many-seeded.. Seeds obliquely suborbicular-cordiform, up to 7 mm. long, smooth, brown.
