Divaricately branched, perennial herb, 0.1-0.4 m high. Branchlets ± densely white appressed puberulous. Leaflets ± obovate, substrigulose beneath, 5-10 mm long. Inflorescences of many, leaf-opposed racemes with rachis extension often pungent, (2-)4-6-flowered. Flowers yellow. Calyx appressed puberulous; lobes 1.0-1.5x as long as tube. Petals: wings a little shorter than keel; keel angular. Pod shortly stipitate, 5-8 mm long, ± ellipsoid with impressed upper suture, appressed puberulous, 2-4-seeded.
Dwarf shrub, up to 400 mm high; branchlets densely white appressed puberulous. Leaves trifoliolate; leaflets narrowly obovate to obovate, 5-10 x 1.5-4.0 mm. Flowers: (2-)4-6 on ± bluntly pungent to spiny, leaf-opposed axes; inflorescences not markedly dimorphic, branching divaricately; beak of keel spirally twisted; corolla yellow; Jan.-Mar. Pods ellipsoid to subglobose, appressed puberulous, 5-8 x 4.5-6.0 mm, 2-4-seeded.
