Characteristics

Erect annual, up to 6·5 dm. tall, simple or ultimately with ascending branches above.. Stem slender, appressed puberulous or pubescent.. Leaves 1-foliolate; leaflets linear-oblanceolate to oblanceolate-oblong, up to 15–30 mm. long and 2·5–4 mm. wide, acute to rounded at the apex, glabrous above, thinly appressed puberulous or pubescent beneath; petiole up to 3 mm. long.. Stipules absent.. Racemes sessile, dense, up to 7 cm. long, many-flowered, developing other short racemes or clusters of flowers in many of the axils below; bracts linear, 1–3 mm. long, shorter or longer than the pedicel; bracteoles absent.. Calyx 3–4 mm. long, with the tube protracted on the lower side, appressed puberulous or pubescent, sometimes rather sparsely so; upper lobes narrowly attenuate-triangular, longer than the tube.. Standard broadly elliptic-obovate, yellow, veined reddish-brown, usually with at least a few hairs at the apex outside; wings shorter than the keel; keel bent at right-angles in the lower third, with a narrow twisted beak slightly incurved at the tip, 4–5 mm. long.. Pod sessile, subglobose-ovoid, 4–5 mm. long, shortly appressed pubescent, 1–2-seeded.. Seeds subcordiform, up to 2 mm. long, with a prominent aril, smooth, maroon or brown.

Similar to C. ringoetii but stems more leafy, the branches, if any, more crowded, the racemes subdense, the linear bracts as long as the pedicels, the standard becoming reddish lined and sometimes splotched but without red fringed dark yellow patches at the base inside, and the seeds with a prominent aril exceeding the hilar sinus.
