Leaves 3-foliolate, sometimes with smaller 1-foliolate leaves subtending axillary flower clusters; leaflets 7–20 × 1–3 mm, progressively smaller above, linear-oblanceolate, pointed, silky pubescent to pilose beneath; petiole flattened, 3–10 mm long; stipules 0.

Racemes 4–10 cm long, lax, but most of the flowers in axillary clusters well down the stem; bracts of terminal racemes 2–2.5 mm long, a little shorter than the pedicel, linear-lanceolate; bracteoles on the pedicel, setaceous.
Standard elliptic, yellow lined red, medially pubescent outside; wings shorter than the keel; keel 9–11 mm long, angular, with a narrow twisted beak, slightly hooked at the tip.
Calyx 4–5 mm long, densely subappressed to spreading pubescent; upper lobes attenuate-triangular, 2–3 times as long as the tube.
Annual, erect to 1 m, ultimately shortly branched above; stem densely silky pubescent.
