Crotalaria schinzii Baker F.

Species

Angiosperms > Fabales > Fabaceae > Crotalaria

Characteristics

Small trailing perennial; stems rather slender, laxly branched, up to 20-60 cm long, quite densely spreading hirsute. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets mostly oblong-elliptic to elliptic-obovate, but sometimes some at least oblanceolate to narrowly oblong-lanceolate, mostly 1.5-4 x 0.7-1.5 cm, pilose at least beneath, sometimes on both surfaces; petiole shorter than the leaflets. Stipules linear-lanceolate, ± caudate, 3-6 mm long. Racemes leaf-opposed, 6-12(-20) cm long, pedunculate, lax (except at tip), ±8-24-flowered; bracts lanceolate to ovate-caudate, 1.5-3 mm long; bracteoles inserted just below the calyx, similar to bract but a little smaller. Calyx 4-6 mm long, appressed pilose; lobes narrowly triangular, ± acuminate, 1-2 times as long as the tube. Standard subcircular, yellow veined purplish brown outside; wings markedly shorter than the keel; keel rounded, with a fairly short but narrow slightly incurved beak, 7.5-9 mm long. Legume shortly stipitate, oblong-fusiform to subcylindrical, slightly broadened upwards, 1.1-2.4 x 0.45-0.9 cm, shortly pubescent, + (10-)16-24-seeded. Seeds oblique-cordiform, 2-3 mm long, rugulose, brown.
